Starknet is a permissionless ZK-Rollup that operates as a Layer 2 network over Ethereum. Bridge your wstETH to Starknet in just a few clicks using the guide below.
Bridging wstETH to Starknet
Visit the StarkGate bridge at starkgate.starknet.io and connect your Ethereum wallet and your Starknet wallet when prompted. If you don't have a Starknet wallet, you can create one using wallets like Argent X or Braavos.
Ensure you are on the “Deposit” tab. Select wstETH as the token you wish to bridge and enter the amount of wstETH you want to transfer to Starknet.
Approve the bridge to interact with your tokens if asked. This will require a small gas fee in ETH to make the approval.
Confirm the transaction in your Ethereum wallet. Gas fees will be required for the transfer. Once confirmed, your wstETH will be available in your Starknet wallet.
Make sure to have ETH or STRK tokens in your Starknet wallet to pay for gas fees on Starknet.
Withdrawing wstETH from Starknet
A complete withdrawal requires 2 steps (i.e. initiate a withdrawal on Starknet and claim wstETH on Ethereum) and takes approximately 12 hours.
Visit the StarkGate bridge at starkgate.starknet.io and connect your Ethereum wallet and your Starknet wallet when prompted.
Ensure you are on the “Withdraw” tab. Select wstETH as the token you wish to bridge and enter the amount of wstETH you want to transfer back to Ethereum mainnet.
Confirm the transaction in your Starknet wallet to initiate the withdrawal. Gas fees (STRK or ETH) will be required.
After approximately 12 hours, visit the StarkGate bridge at starkgate.starknet.io to complete the withdrawal of your wstETH on Ethereum.
Gas Fees Reminder: you will need STRK or ETH on Starknet to initiate the withdrawal and ETH on Ethereum to claim wstETH.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is wstETH?
wstETH (wrapped stETH) is a non-rebasing version of Lido protocol's stETH. Unlike stETH, where your balance is adjusted daily to reflect the accrued staking rewards, wstETH keeps your balance constant. Instead, staking rewards are reflected in an increase in the value of wstETH over time.
How do I get wstETH?
You can obtain wstETH by wrapping your stETH or ETH by using the Lido protocol at stake.lido.fi/wrap.
Are there any bridging fees?
You will need to pay network fees (gas fees) on Ethereum to cover the cost of the bridging transaction. There are no additional fees charged by the StarkGate bridge itself.
How long does it take to bridge?
The bridging process typically takes a few minutes, depending on network congestion on Ethereum and Starknet.
How long does it take to bridge back to Ethereum?
Bridging back funds to Ethereum typically takes up to 12 hours due to the rollup challenge period.
Can I cancel the bridging process?
Once the transaction is confirmed on the Ethereum network, it cannot be canceled.
What can I do with wstETH on Starknet?
With wstETH on Starknet, you can explore a variety of DeFi strategies within the Starknet ecosystem, including lending, borrowing, liquidity provision, and more.
Is Starknet compatible with my existing Ethereum wallet?
Starknet is compatible with Ethereum wallets and requires a Starknet-compatible wallet like Argent X or Braavos for the Starknet side.
