Bridging wstETH To Mode Network

Lido's staked ETH is now on Mode. Here's how to bridge.

Updated over 2 months ago

wstETH is now accessible on Mode, allowing users to deposit their wstETH to Mode via Superbridge - the DAO-supported UI for bridging wstETH on Mode using a native bridge.

Mode is a DeFi-focused Layer 2 (L2) platform building the Superchain alongside Optimism, which enables a new on-chain financial ecosystem.

Bridging to Mode

The bridging process is straightforward, allowing you to transfer your staked ETH to Mode in just a few minutes. Here's how it works:

Before you get started, make sure you are working with Lido's wrapped staked ETH (wstETH). To wrap your ETH or stETH to wstETH, visit stake.lido.fi/wrap.

  1. Visit superbridge.app/mode and connect your wallet.

  2. Select wstETH from the dropdown and choose the amount to deposit.

  3. Approve the Mode Bridge to interact with your wstETH tokens if asked. This will require a small gas fee to confirm the approval.

  4. Review the bridging info and sign the Deposit transaction. You can check the transaction status in the Activity page.

The waiting time is typically a few minutes. After the transaction completes, your wstETH will be available for use on Mode.

If you can’t see your wstETH on the wallet, make sure you add Mode network into your wallet and refresh the list or add wstETH into the wallet.

Withdrawing from Mode

A complete withdrawal requires 3 transactions in total (1 on Mode and 2 on Ethereum respectively), and takes around 7 days due to a security feature for all the Superchain instances.

  1. Switch to the Withdraw tab on superbridge.app/mode and connect your wallet. Before starting the withdrawal, make sure you switch to the Mode network.

  2. Submit your withdrawal. Choose wstETH from the dropdown and the withdrawal amount, hit ‘Withdraw’ and confirm you want to withdraw. You will need ETH on Mode to pay gas.

  3. Prove your pending withdrawal. After the withdrawal request is proposed (within 1 hour), you have to complete the verification process with your wallet on the Activity page by clicking ‘Prove’ under your transaction. Make sure your wallet is connected to the Ethereum network.

  4. Complete the withdrawal. After about 7 days, claim your wstETH tokens by clicking ‘Claim’ next to the transaction on the Activity page.

Bridging To Mode: Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find answers to the most common questions.

What is wstETH?

wstETH (wrapped stETH) is a non-rebasing version of Lido's stETH where your balance remains constant and network rewards accrue in the form of increased wstETH price (unlike stETH, where your balance increases on a daily basis).

How do I get wstETH?

To get wstETH, you can wrap your stETH or ETH on stake.lido.fi/wrap.

Are there any bridging fees?

Network fees in ETH are required to pay for the gas costs on Ethereum and Mode. There are no extra fees specifically for using Superbridge.

How long does it take to bridge?

Depositing to Mode typically takes a few minutes. Withdrawing from Mode to Ethereum takes approximately 7 days due to a security feature designed to help secure Mode.

How do I bridge back to Ethereum?

As designed, bridging back to Ethereum requires 3 steps and takes about 7 days after the verification.

Can I cancel the action of bridging back to Ethereum?

No, it is not possible to cancel it after you have submitted the bridging request.

Why does it take 7 days to withdraw?

The 7 day duration for the bridge is established as a security measure within the OP Stack and serves as a challenge period.
