Bridging wstETH to zkSync

A guide to bridging your staked ETH to zkSync

Updated over a week ago

wstETH is now live on zkSync Era! Follow the guide below to bridge your tokens to zkSync 👇

Bridging to zkSync

The bridging process is straightforward letting you to transfer your wstETH to zkSync in just a few minutes.

Before you get started, make sure you are working with Lido's wrapped staked ETH (wstETH). To wrap your ETH or stETH to wstETH, go to stake.lido.fi/wrap.

Here's how you bridge to zkSync:

  1. Visit portal.txsync.io/bridge/ and connect your wallet.

  2. Choose the amount of wstETH to bridge.

  3. Choose your zkSync Era Mainnet address you want to receive tokens on. By default, the current Ethereum address is chosen.

  4. Approve the bridge to interact with your tokens if asked. This will require a small gas fee to make the approval.

The waiting time is around 15 minutes, after which point your wstETH will be available on zkSync. If you can’t see your wstETH on the wallet, please refresh the list or add wstETH into the wallet.

Bridging back to Ethereum

  1. Visit portal.txsync.io/bridge/withdraw and connect your wallet. Make sure your wallet is connected to zkSync Era.

  2. Select the amount of wstETH to bridge back.

  3. Confirm the transaction after checking the bridge info. You will need ETH on zkSync to pay gas.

  4. After confirming the transaction, you need to wait approximately 24hrs in order to claim your transaction on the bridge. To do that visit portal.txsync.io/bridge.

In case of withdrawal delays, visit era.zksync.io/docs/reference/troubleshooting/withdrawal-delay.html to diagnose the issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is wstETH?

wstETH (wrapped stETH) is a non-rebasing version of Lido's stETH where your balance remains constant and network rewards accrue in the form of increased wstETH price (unlike stETH, where your balance increases on a daily basis).

How do I get wstETH?

To get wstETH, you can wrap your stETH or ETH on stake.lido.fi/wrap.

Do I still earn rewards when holding wstETH?

Yes, you continue to earn daily staking rewards when holding wstETH. Keep in mind that wstETH rewards are in the form of a price increase - not a daily rebase - meaning your staking rewards are realised when you sell your wstETH.

Are there any bridging fees?

Network fees are required to pay for the gas costs on Ethereum and zkSync Era. There are no extra fees specifically for using zkSync native bridge.

How long does it take to bridge?

Depositing to zksync Era typically takes a few minutes. Withdrawing from zkSync Era to Ethereum takes approximately 24 hours due to a withdrawal delay design.
